These are the products I personally recommend to my patients for monitoring their kidney health at home. Everything on this list has been chosen for clinical usefulness, ease of use, and value for money — not because of any commercial relationship with the manufacturers.

Essential
🩺
Blood Pressure Monitor
Omron X2+ Upper Arm BP Monitor
Clinically validated upper-arm monitor. Easy one-button operation with large digital display. Stores up to 60 readings with date and time. Irregular heartbeat detection included.
Why I recommend it: Upper-arm monitors are significantly more accurate than wrist monitors. The Omron X2+ is validated to British Hypertension Society standards — the same brand used in NHS clinics.
Accessory
💪
BP Monitor Accessory
Large Cuff for Omron BP Monitor
Wider cuff designed for larger upper arms (32–42 cm circumference). Compatible with Omron upper-arm monitors. Using the wrong cuff size is one of the most common causes of inaccurate BP readings.
Why I recommend it: If your arm is on the larger side, a standard cuff will give falsely high readings. Getting the cuff size right is as important as the machine itself.

Body Composition Scales
Pedete Body Composition Scales
Smart scales measuring weight, BMI, body fat, muscle mass, bone density and more. App-connected with trend tracking over time. Accurate to 0.1 kg.
Why I recommend it: BMI and body composition affect how accurate creatinine-based kidney function tests are. Tracking your weight trend also helps monitor fluid retention — an important sign in kidney disease.

Urine Dipstick Test
Siemens Multistix 10SG Urine Strips
10-parameter urine test strips used in NHS clinics. Tests for glucose, protein, blood, pH, ketones, nitrites, leucocytes, bilirubin, urobilinogen and specific gravity. Results in 60 seconds.
Why I recommend it: These are the same strips used in GP surgeries. A quick home dip can flag blood or protein in the urine — early warning signs worth catching before your next blood test.

Urine Protein Test
Siemens Albustix Urine Albumin Strips
Single-parameter strips specifically for albumin (protein) in urine. More sensitive than standard dipsticks for detecting microalbuminuria. 50 strips per pack, results in 60 seconds.
Why I recommend it: Albumin in the urine is one of the earliest and most important signs of kidney damage. These allow quick home screening between formal ACR lab tests.

Sample Collection
Universal Urine Sample Containers
Sterile, wide-neck 60ml sample containers with secure screw-top lids. Graduated with measurements. Pack of multiple containers — identical to those used by NHS labs.
Why I recommend it: A clean, sterile container is essential for accurate ACR and dipstick testing. Always use a first-morning sample in a fresh container for the most reliable results.
Why monitor your kidney health at home?
Spot trends early
BP and weight trends between GP appointments give a much more complete picture than a single clinic reading.
Hit your targets
The NICE CKD target is BP <130/80 mmHg. Home monitoring is proven to be more accurate than clinic readings.
Act faster
Catching a rise in BP or new protein in the urine early means you and your GP can act before damage accumulates.
Better GP conversations
Bringing a log of home readings to your appointment gives your doctor far more useful information to work with.
